“TRANSBOUNDARY SPACES. DYNAMICS AND CHALLENGES”
01-02 December 2017, Gjirokastër, Albania
Transboundary spaces have been and remain at the center of scientific research and debates on global politics, social, economic and environmental developments, cultural interactions etc. Nowadays, based on their similarities and common interests, these spaces, are challenging and overcoming the territorial bounderies being increasingly seen as cohesive regions which providedevelopment opportunities for the border communities.
Furthermore, transboundary spaces are overcoming even the physical borders and are extanding to the cultural and virtual substrate of the respective communities. The identification of the unity of all the dimensions of a modern transbourdary space, including the physical, human, cultural and virtual spaces, is a duty of the modern geography. The discovery and the amplification of the hidden diverse cross-border potentials constitute the precondition for a multidimensional cross-border cooperation and integration.
Both these serve as nucleus and catalisators for a wider integration of all territories, which is essential for the euro-atlantic integration processes of our region. Then, common policies and strategies for sutainable development are the future of full integration.
The corpus of modern methodology of the contemporary geography fulfills the above mentioned needs. This is why the conference welcomes also contributions from scholars of various fields: history, archeology, biology, sociology, international relations, cultural heritage, anthropology, always keeping under consideration the research dimension of the common methods of this fields with the field of Geography.
